Birth Control Pills Revisited Viz a Vis Elon Musk

Once again, Mr. Elon Musk has done a great public service.

He has reopened the conversation about the dangers of birth control pills(BCPs), especially in young women. On February 16, 2024, Mr. Musk tweeted that birth control pills make you fat, and doubles the risk of depression and triples the risk of suicide. In my extensive clinical experience this is absolutely true. Let us drill down on the science behind these facts. When one takes BCPs, the ovary shuts down and fails to produce progesterone. Progesterone, the hormone of pregnancy and menopause is essential for the physical and emotional well-being of a woman. This is crucial in understanding the bad results that Mr. Musk refers to. Furthermore, the estrogen content in the pill is very high. This is also true to a lesser degree to low dose pills currently preferred. However, all BCPs are extremely high in estrogen. This fact combined with the lack of progesterone creates a progesterone ratio to estrogen (P/E ratio) of astronomical proportions. Hence, we hardly ever utilize these BCPs for the treatment of desired sterility. Even worse, the progestin used in the combination pill is known to increase depression and cause weight gain. Remember, contrary to what some doctors tell you, there is no progesterone in birth control pills. They are confusing synthetic progestins with progesterone. On a larger scale, studies have shown that the kidney excreted chemicals from birth control pills are found in very high quantities in our drinking water supply. Filtration systems and water purification methods do not deal with this very important health concern. Children receiving active estrogens by drinking water is by common sense not a good thing and will have negative consequences for years to come. On a side note, it is interesting to see that a celebrity can affect the delivery of healthcare drastically due to the high public penetration. We saw this with Oprah Winfrey having Suzanne Summers on the Oprah Winfrey show on May 15, 2010 that enabled millions of people to learn about the values of progesterone therapy in the treatment of menopause and reducing breast cancer. Elon Musk has done this by a single tweet!
