JULY 2024 NEWSLETTER – HOW DO HORMONES AFFECT SEXUAL DESIRE AND FUNCTION
Semaglutide is part of the class of medications known as GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptides.) When you eat, these substances are released into the body by the gut. The effects are to lower blood sugars by temporarily raising effective insulin levels. This has the effect of making you less hungry and feeling satisfied.
It appears that use of GLP-1 agonists also reduces addictive types of behaviors. Even though the mechanism is unclear, the effects are to reduce addictive types of eating patterns for those that eat when they become anxious.
Semaglutide has been made available commercially in the injectable form, either weekly or monthly. Unfortunately this creates an unfavorable peak and trough to blood levels. This contributes to the complications associated with use. This includes drastic loss of facial fat and collagen that makes you have the appearance of severe aging. This unfortunately has been found to be irreversible. As well, the incidence of pancreatitis has been known to be associated with injectable Semaglutide.
As part of the spectrum of diabetes, pre-diabetes is associated with chronic levels of elevated insulin levels. This is due to the resistance of the cells to respond to insulin due to them being full of sugar. It appears the Semaglutide breaks this cycle. We have found that after therapy, the fasting Insulin level is lower and the patient has less hypoglycemic episodes.
Therefore we have developed a daily dose of Semaglutide in a gel form that is easily placed under the tongue. This has been shown to be effective and without any complications. It is also possible for the patient to self regulate the amount taken on a daily basis. For our Hormonify patients the cost is quite reasonable and much lower than the injectable form.
