A troche (pronounced trō-key) is a small medicated gummy lozenge designed to dissolve in the mouth.

Medicines that are introduced into the body with a troche will bypass the digestive system and instead deliver their active ingredients directly into the bloodstream. Troches will enter the bloodstream all thanks to the numerous blood vessels located very close to the surface of the skin in the tissue directly under the tongue and the walls of the cheek.

Hormones used in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), do not maintain their efficacy when they come into contact with digestive acids. They belong in the circulatory system. So because we specialize in BHRT, we prefer troches. Many believe that troches are also kinder on the liver.
