BHRT Bioidentical Hormones Replacement Therapy FAQ

Bioidentical Hormones FAQs

What are bioidentical hormones?
Bioidentical hormones match the molecular structure of the natural hormones created by your body.
Bioidentical hormones are synthesized from a plant such as yam or soy and are created for use in treatment.
Technically, your body won’t be able to distinguish bio-identical hormones from what your body produces.
When used in treatment, bioidentical hormones can relieve menopausal symptoms.
What is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT)?
Due to technological advances, hormones can be extracted from natural sources and are able to be administered in exact concentrations.
Once the extraction occurs — mostly from soybeans or yams — the process of standardization produces a pure stable source of hormones.
These hormones are exactly the same as those produced in the human body.
Is BHRT for me?
It can be!
Women seek BHRT when experiencing symptoms of menopause, decrease in libido, genitalia dryness, and mood swings.
Men seek Testosterone BHRT for a variety of reasons including fatigue, muscle loss, decreased muscle strength, mood swings, and loss of libido.
What are the benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Reduction of hot flashes
Improved sleep and fewer muscle aches and pain
Improved mood
Relief from symptoms of urinary frequency
Reduction in osteoporosis
Reduction in cardiovascular disease
Significant improvement from genitalia dryness and increase of libido
What are the hormones I should focus on when I am considering replacement therapy?
The main hormone responsible for menopause is progesterone. Progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum, the residual part of the ovulatory follicle in the ovary.
It is the precursor of many essential hormones, especially testosterone. DHEA (hormone) is mostly produced by the adrenal gland, a small gland above the kidney.
Adrenal fatigue can present with very low levels of DHEA.
Testosterone in varying amounts is a very important hormone for both men and women.
Even though this is a crucial hormone, therapies that rely only on this therapy fail to provide the benefits of our balanced replacement program. Estrogen, which is helpful in small amounts, is a minor contributor to a balanced hormone replacement regimen.
What are the potential side effects of taking BHRT?
With our experienced staff, our patients have had no major complications. We adjust the hormone profile to mimic levels existing in a healthy woman age 35-40. This optimization is the key to our patient’s success.
Where are Hormonify’s hormones produced?
All hormones are produced in the USA, but we don’t just stop there! Our highly-trained Florida staff even oversees production.
Are bioidentical hormones natural or synthesized?
Years ago that mattered when chemicals derived in labs were used for hormone replacement. Now they are extracted from natural sources and synthesized to provide exact concentrations for administration. Your personalized prescription is specifically compounded from non-synthetic plant derivatives. They are prepared as either suppositories or capsules taken orally.
Why get laboratory evaluations for BHRT?
We have developed a panel of laboratory tests to evaluate a person’s individual needs when the patient starts the program.
Most of our patients do not require any additional tests unless a problem arises.
We do not require “routine” tests on an interval to adjust hormone levels. We use the patient’s history and physical findings to make minor adjustments.
After tens of thousands of patients, this is superior and more efficient than relying on interval labs.
How long should I be taking these hormones?
We always say until you are ninety years old. In our hands, there is no medical reason to stop.
Just because a person ages does not mean that the indications for a therapy change.
Of course, there might have to be some minor changes due to changes in lifestyle, weight, and activity.
We do monitor closely the bone scans to evaluate the potential risks from osteoporosis.

Men FAQs

About Male Testosterone BHRT:
Our BHRT program for adult males is focused on men who begin to exhibit signs and symptoms of testosterone deficiency.
What does hormone replacement therapy for men entail?
We always recommend baseline blood testing to assure the proper dosing. This includes testing to evaluate the hemoglobin levels, prostate antigen, thyroid function, and of course testosterone and estradiol. Follow-up levels are required to ensure the safety and effectiveness of testosterone replacement. Our successful program has provided thousands of men with Male Testosterone Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy.

How are Bioidentical Male Hormones administered?
After thousands of patients, we have established that the best way to get reliable levels is through intra-muscular injections that can easily be injected at home.
We also utilize a lipophilic cream that ensures rapid absorption of testosterone for those that prefer this method of delivery.
Those in our program get free injections if they live locally, otherwise, our nursing staff trains a household member to properly administer the medication.
Some patients require an anti-estrogen to ensure these levels are in a balanced range.
Most of our patients require nutritional advice to limit the visceral fat deposition in the midsection and encourage the lowering of insulin levels.
We look forward to advising you!

What does hormone replacement for women therapy entail?
The first step to beginning your bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is having a consultation with one of our medical professionals.
We will conduct a comprehensive hormone profile that assesses your current hormone levels.
With these results, we create a personalized formula designed specifically for you.
The compound may include up to four different ingredients, depending on what you need. These are:

  • Progesterone: To help prevent osteoporosis, reduce uterine fibroids,
aid in the treatment of endometriosis
  • Triestrogen: A combination of three different estrogens that can manage energy levels, hot flashes, insomnia, and genitalia atrophy.
  • Testosterone: To increase libido and energy
  • DHEA: Helpful in reducing hormonally-induced stress
How are bioidentical hormones administered?
After years of research, it was determined that bioidentical hormones for women are most effective if absorbed without first going through the portal vein to the liver.
It is there that is transformed and cleared which will cause variable results. Consistent modes of absorption occur either through the skin, vagina, rectum, or oral cavity.
Here in the United States the preferred method is oral or skin. Unfortunately, the skin route is also unpredictable and levels are inadequate for our purposes.
How long should therapy continue?
We always say until you are ninety years old.
In our opinion, there is no medical reason to stop.
Just because a person ages does not mean that the indications for a therapy change.
Of course, there might have to be some minor changes due to changes in lifestyle, weight, and activity.
We do monitor closely the bone scans to evaluate the potential risks of osteoporosis.
